A retrospective of Steve McCurry's work opens tomorrow at Casal Solleric, Palma de Mallorca (16 June - 4 September). The exhibition spans the breadth of McCurry's work over the last three decades displaying a selection of his most important images. You can meet the Magnum legend too, when McCurry will introduce the works at the opening, which will be followed by a book signing at the museum's bookstore.

The exhibition froms part of PALMAPHOTO´11, a photographic festival in Palma de Mallorca featuring 17 local and international photographers.

Well-known for his picture of the Afghan girl, published on the front of National Geographic, McCurry produces evocative images capturing the essence of his subjects. His work includes coverage of international and civil conflicts, focusing on the human consequences of war. "What is important to my work is the individual picture," McCurry explains. "I photograph stories on assignment, and of course they have to be put together coherently. But what matters most is that each picture stands on its own, with its own place and feeling."
