Four years after Bong Joon-Ho's The Host took the world by storm, Korean production house Chungeorahm Films have confirmed that their sequel to his monstrous hit is being prepped in 3D.

To date the highest-grossing film in South Korea, The Host recounts one family's experiences when a monster emerges out of the Han River and gruesomely devours bystanders on a crowded riverbank in Seoul. Gang-du (Song Kang-ho), a half-witted father, loses his beloved daughter to the creature before his eyes. His out-of-work brother; his sister, a National Bronze medalist in archery; and his elderly father, join forces for the revenge when Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-seo telling that she is still alive.

'What is distinctive about Bong’s filmmaking is how deeper meanings are illuminated as his unique characters enter and engage in the setting…In short, he calls for stretching the boundaries of genre films, which also reflect the diverse desires of today’s audiences,' said Kim Dong Ho, founding director of the Pusan International Film Festival, who selected the director for Take 100, Phaidon's comprehensive work on the best emerging film directors working today.

Exact plot details are still under wraps but it is thought The Host 2 will feature 'multiple monsters' and will be a prequel to the first film.
