After more than 23,000 submissions for YouTube's 'Biennial of Creative Video', the 25 finalists - selected by a jury that included the filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, music group Animal Collective and artists Marilyn Minter, Douglas Gordon and Takashi Murakami - were finally revealed last night.

Instigated by the website and the Guggenheim Museum, in collaboration with HP, the aim of the compilation of the 'ultimate YouTube playlist' was to 'recognise the current effect of new technologies on creativity by showcasing exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of digital media'.

The finalists, which include music videos, appropriations and a clip within a clip within a clip (Berliner Martin Kohout's Moonwalk video), will be displayed on the outside of the Guggenheim New York's famous Rotunda, and at the Guggenheim Museums in Bilbao, Venice and Berlin, until Sunday 24 October.
