Lead Pencil Studio's Non-Sign II

The latest work by the Seattle-based duo, commissioned by the US government for the Canadian/US border.
Lead Pencil Studio's Non-Sign II creates an illusion of a negative billboard thus encouraging viewers to look beyond the contoured area.

Appearing as though created by a swarm of flies, Non-Sign II, from Lead Pencil Studio, is formed from scores of intertwined fine steel rods. The billboard-shaped void contrasts with the omnipresent advertising hoardings of the surrounding area, inviting viewers to concentrate instead on the natural beauty of the landscape.

Commissioned by the US government for a site by the US/Canadian border, the piece is the latest work to be created by the prize-winning Seattle-based duo, who were also behind Maryhill Double, the 'ghostlike' representation in scaffolding and construction netting of the Maryhill Museum, in Washington, which was installed opposite it's real-life model in 2006.
