Revealed – the true story behind the 'Afghan Mona Lisa'
Steve McCurry tells all at new opening
Since the late 1970s Magnum photographer Steve McCurry has been travelling the world and documenting it in his unique, boldly coloured style. Although his travels have led him to many war-torn countries, he is not a war photographer - his photographs document the human consequences of conflict and show his enduring interest in people.
A member of Magnum Photos since 1986 he has taken inspiration from one of the agency's most prominent photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and carried forward the idea of 'the decisive moment', but making it his own through his singular use of colour and graphic composition. Here are some photos featured both in his new Chris Beetles Fine Photographs show and in his books for Phaidon.
