The 'Nues' collaboration - highlights from 'Canned Candies'
40 years after Jean Clemmer and Paco Rabanne's collaboration, Nues, was first launched in Paris (the book was unveiled at the legendary Crazy Horse Saloon to shock and awe in equal measures) the now-iconic images have been brought together once again for a special pop-up exhibition in central London.
Canned Candies, which also features a wider range of Clemmer's sensual photographic studies of the female form as well as the legendary collaborative shots, captures the utopian dreams of the era, exploring the realms of science fiction and fantasy and epitomising the radical culture of sexual freedem of the 1960s.
An exploration of the rituals of interplay between the female body and adornment, the Nues images featured models as muses 'dressed' in Rabanne's futuristic 'unwearable' chain-mail jewellery, turning the ornamented human form into a vehicle for sensuality, spectacle and pleasure. And the collaboration between Salvador Dali's personal photographer and the revolutionary designer of costumes for such iconic films as Barbarella was revolutionary in more ways than one; the series was also famous for its ground-breaking use of black and Asian models.
The exhibition is the first pop-up show to come from Flash Projects, the specialist photographic arm of Saville Row-based art dealers James Hyman Fine Art. A series of limited edition prints will be offered for sale for the duration of the event.
