Japanese firm Yamaha celebrates its 125 years in business this October, and to mark the occasion the musical instruments and motorbike manufacturer commissioned the highly influential British graphic designer Neville Brody to design a celebratory logo.

Brody says his "geometric approach reflects the pure design aspect of Yamaha's products. Modular building blocks represent all different facets of Yamaha through the ages. The design also gives a feeling and suggestions of piano keys, lines on a musical score, rhythm and harmony."

A well thought-out explanation for the work, we think. But what do you say? And if you fancy seeing more by Brody and his contemporaries, take a look at the The Phaidon Archive of Graphic Design.
