Olivier Père selected Judd Apatow as one of the best emerging film directors working today and chose the film Funny People as an example that best represents his work.

Funny People (2009):
George Simmons (Adam Sandler), a famous and wealthy funnyman, doesn’t give much thought to how he treats people until a doctor delivers some shocking health news, forcing him to reevaluate his priorities with a little help from an aspiring stand-up comic, Ira Wright (Seth Rogen).

"Judd Apatow is the most important comedy director to have emerged in American cinema in the 2000s. He’s also a producer and screenwriter, and with his prolific contributions to film and television he has swiftly built up a list of humorous work with a new tone and style, ranging from parody to comedy of manners. Today’s best comic actors gravitate toward him, and he has helped launched a whole new generation of funnymen: Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell, Seth Rogen, and Michael Cera."
Olivier Pére, Artistic Director, Locarno Film Festival
