Sarah McCrory, curator of Frieze Projects 2010, on what to see and who to catch at Regent's Park this year
A core element of the Frieze Art Fair since its inauguration in 2003, Frieze Projects is a programme of artists’ commissions realised specifically for the Fair.
Frieze Projects 2010 features nine specially commissioned projects, which will include a live performance based on a game show by London-based artist Spartacus Chetwynd, powder-coated sculptures by Gabriel Kuri, which will replace the fair's existing ashtrays, and a panel discussion to be held by American artist Jeffrey Vallance, which will involve five mediums channelling the spirits of great artists of the past.
Frieze Projects this year is curated by Sarah McCrory and also includes the Cartier Award, which is presented to emerging artists living outside the UK. The 2010 winner of the Award is Simon Fujiwara a British/Japanese artist based in Berlin and Mexico City. For the event Fujiwara plans to present a new site-specific work, Frozen; an installation based on the fictive premise that an ancient lost city has been discovered beneath the site of the fair.
