Production Controller
Phaidon Press is seeking a highly motivated and organised Production Controller to join their busy production team based in our London headquarters.
You will be required to organise and be responsible for the complete production process of all backlist titles, including reprints, co-editions, special and corporate sales.
Liaising directly with the Supply Chain Manager, International Sales team and directly with overseas customers, you will ensure the production of each title is on time and within budget, to the exceptional quality levels expected at Phaidon.
The ideal candidate will be a superb multi-tasker, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an amazing eye for detail.
Working within the production team, you will be responsible for one key member of staff, ensuring they meet and surpass your own exacting standards.
Key Duties:
Liaise directly with overseas customers on all production matters
Ensure all print and digital files are set up correctly for co-editions, and work closely with overseas customers on supply of final files
Ensure excellent quality control, with sign off at every points of the production process both internally and externally
Keep the internal database accurately updated and produce regular reports
Create and monitor schedules
Chair weekly International Team scheduling meetings
Liaise closely with Production Managers on manufacturing and operational issues
Raise Purchase Orders
Approve Invoices
Experience / Skills Required:
Proven experience of working in a four-colour book production environment, and in particular with numerous co-editions
Proactive approach, with the ability to act on initiative
Excellent organisational skills, with ability to multi-task and manage a busy, varied workflow
Proven experience of checking digital files for co-edition printing, colour correcting digital proofs, checking printed running sheets and ideally press passing
Ability to build a professional working relationship with overseas customers
Good communication and administrative skills, with emphasis on numeracy, literacy and data entry
Experience of working with overseas print suppliers, and repro houses
Prior experience of being responsible for another members of staff
Preference would be given to candidates with a proven printing background. A good, solid working experience of InDesign, Quark, Word, Excel, Lotus Notes is essential and tests will be given.
Knowledge of a foreign language would be an advantage, but not essential.
Preference will be given to those candidates with prior experience of working for a visual arts publisher.
